I am a first generation college graduate whose ancestors worked the coal mines of Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee, and Virginia. My heritage and my struggle are what drives me personally and professionally. Born in Kentucky, I grew up in a small coal mining town of St. Paul, Virginia, the son of Carl and Wanda Williams. My father worked most of his life in the mines and my mother was a Head Start teacher. Below are some pictures that I took the last time I visited St. Paul, shortly before my mother died.
